Abstract
Abstract: 【Objective】 To obtain the lamina cribrosa thickness (LCT) in healthy Chinese subjects in vivo and analyze the impact of gender
eye
age on LCT. 【Methods】 A total of 85 eyes from 85 subjects with no ophthalmic disease history were recruited. Lamina cribrosa image were obtained from all eyes using enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (EDI SDOCT). The LCT was averaged from horizontal and vertical linear scanning. The differences of the LCT of different gender
eye and age were analyzed. The relationships between LCT and intraocular pressure(IOP)
refractive error
as well as age
were analysed. 【Results】 For the whole normal subjects
the overall mean age was 50 ± 18 years
the average LCT was 232 ± 41 μm. No statistically significant difference in LCT was found between the genders (P = 0.71) and different eyes (P = 0.36). According to age
the subjects were divided into three groups: G1(20 ~ 39
40 ~ 59
60 ~ 80 years). The average LCT of the three groups were 211 ± 24
220 ± 30
256 ± 46 μm
respectively
with statistically significant differences among the three groups (P<0.001). Age was positively correlated with LCT (r = 0.46
P < 0.001). IOP and refractive error have no significant effects on the LCT(r = 0.06 ~0.10
P = 0.45) 【Conclusion】 No significant impact of gender and eye was found on LCT. Age may influence the LCT. The impact of age on the lamina cribrosa should be considered when analyzing disease states.
