Effect of Modulation of Working Memory on Influence of Anxiety on Inhibition for Drug Dependence[J]. Journal of Sun Yat-sen University (Medical Sciences), 2013, 34(2).DOI:
【Objective】To evaluate the cognitive function of abstinent drug dependent individuals
and understand the modulation effect of working memory on the influence of anxiety on the inhibition of drug dependent individuals. 【Methods】 The Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale (HADS)
continuous performance task and 2back task were adopted to measure the anxiety and depression state
inhibition and working memory of 150 drug dependent individuals as well as 100 nodrug users
who matched with drug dependent subjects in age
gender
and education year
and Raven IQ original score. t test were used to compare anxiety
depression
inhibition and working memory between two groups. Correlation and regression were used to test the modulation effect of working memory on the influence of anxiety on inhibition. 【Results】 Significant difference were found in the anxiety
depression state and working memory (2back accuracy)
inhibition (CPT commission error
CPT reaction time) between drug dependent and control groups (P < 0.05). Working memory was found to have a partmodulation effect on the influence of anxiety on the inhibition. The rate of contribution of working memory was 29.5%. 【Conclusion】 The abstinent drug dependent individuals were found to have deficient working memory and inhibition; anxiety influenced both 2back task accuracy and inhibition. The working memory could modulate the effect of anxiety on the inhibition.
